What is the Children and Young People’s Occupational Therapy Service?
The Occupational Therapy service enables children and young people to participate as fully as possible in activities as part of their daily lives. We work with children and young people who have difficulties or a disability which impacts upon their daily participation in activities. Occupational Therapists (OT’s) help children and young people to carry out activities they need or want to do in areas of self care, school work and play. If a child or young person has learning, sensory or physical difficulties, their ability to grow, learn, socialise and play can be compromised.
Our service works with a variety of children and young people between the ages of 0-19 years who have specific difficulties in participating in or completing daily activities.
Who are we?
Both qualified Occupational Therapists (OT’s) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA’s) work within the department. Initial assessments are always carried out by a qualified OT. You may receive further assessment and intervention by an OT or an OTA depending on your need. All qualified OT’s are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. www.hcpc-uk.org/

The input that is required from our service will determine the best environment to work with your child. This will be determined by information on the referral form.
How can I access the service?
Referrals to the service – Referrals can be made by health, education and social care professionals only. A referral form can be found on our website. As parents/carers, you will be asked to contribute to the referral information and consent to this being sent to our service.
What happens after my referral? – Referrals are screened weekly by a senior member of the Occupational Therapy team against our referral criteria. You will be informed as to whether your referral has been accepted or if we require further information.
